From Conversation to Community
OUR STORY
Africans in Action, Inc. was founded on a conviction that is both simple and profound: African communities are strongest when they act together. What began as a series of community conversations has grown into a structured organization delivering civic leadership programs, cultural festivals, youth development initiatives, and community resource services to a membership representing all 54 African nations.
Our work has never been guided by a single story of Africa. Instead, we draw strength from the full, living diversity of African peoples and experiences — fifty-four nations, thousands of languages, and millennia of shared history that we celebrate in all its richness. We are an organization of many origins, many traditions, and one shared purpose.
The Future We Are Building
OUR VALUES
We are guided by Ubuntu — the African philosophy that individual flourishing is inseparable from collective well-being. When one member of our community rises, the whole community rises with them. This philosophy shapes everything we do, from the way we design our programs to the way we welcome every person who walks through our doors.
We are committed to the dignity and belonging of every person of African heritage, regardless of their country of origin, language, or the path that brought them here. We hold that cultural pride is not merely sentimental — it is a foundation for civic confidence, community cohesion, and intergenerational resilience. And we believe that civic responsibility is both a right and a duty, one that we work to make accessible and meaningful for every member of our community.
Programs That Create Lasting Change
WHAT WE DO
Africans in Action, Inc. delivers programs across four core areas, each addressing a distinct dimension of community empowerment.
Our Civic Leadership Initiative trains and supports community members to engage meaningfully in local government, elections, and public policy — from first-time voters navigating the registration process to community advocates and candidates for public office.
Our Cultural Heritage Program encompasses an annual festival, the Pan-African Dialogue Series, and ongoing arts and community events that celebrate the depth and diversity of African identity and bring together communities from across the continent and diaspora.
Our Youth Empowerment Program provides scholarships, mentorship, and leadership development to young people of African heritage, grounding them in their cultural identity while preparing them to lead the communities of tomorrow.
Our Community Resource Hub connects members with essential services — including legal assistance, healthcare navigation, small business support, and housing resources — through a network of trusted local partner organizations.
Five Hundred Members. Fifty-Four Nations. One Community
OUR IMPACT
Since our founding, Africans in Action, Inc. has grown into a community of more than 500 members. We have delivered more than 12 active programs, registered hundreds of new voters, awarded youth scholarships, and hosted cultural events attended by thousands of community members and members of the broader public. Every number behind these figures represents a person whose civic voice was amplified, whose heritage was celebrated, or whose path forward became clearer because of this community.
